“Paula und Rainer”

A staged reading with texts from an exchange of letters between the famous German painter, Paula Modersohn-Becker, and poet, Rainer Maria Rilke. Martin Heckmann and Gabriele Süper seek to portray to the people of today the essence and intensity of this friendship between the two artists.

The result is a quiet, gentle and intimate portrayal with wonderful insights into the ebb and flow of their friendship, which not so much brings the audience closer to the art of the protagonists but sensitively seeks to make it more familiar with their daily hopes and longings. As such, “Paul and Rainer” has become an intimate and very individual recognition of a friendship, which at times waxes lyrical but at others is also fragile and subject to the general vicissitudes of life.
